"SX_Tape" Blu-Ray Review- Written by Abraham Phillips

SX_Tape (2014)

Starring : Caitlyn Folley, Ian Duncan, Chris Coy, Diana Garcia

Plot: What begins as harmless sex games between a free-spirited artist and her videographer boyfriend turns much darker as the pair breaks into a boarded-up former hospital, looking for a space for a new gallery show. As they investigate the building’s ominous rooms and passageways, a seductive prank , meaning to arouse and terrify, goes terribly wrong – and what is discovered will destroy them both.

My Review and Thoughts:

Here's another hand held found footage horror film. These are a dime a dozen. I find these type of films to be boring and overdone. These are created with no real artistry in the idea of cinema. Most of them don’t even stand to be remembered or even anything worthwhile. I had a hard time finishing this one. Basic stuff. Basic story that’s been done a hundred times. The acting was good which was a somewhat plus.

So the basic story is Jill is being filmed by her boyfriend Adam. They decide to make an art piece on film. Jill is an artist. Needless to say unoriginal concept and an unoriginal reality for the viewer. The negative is the found footage idea and also the whole beginning. All it is two sexed crazed people having sex and doing nothing but walking or Jill talking to the camera or brushing her teeth.

Finally you end up in the old run down closed Abortion hospital. Lots of shaking camera and screaming, running and darkness. Everything you would expect in a poorly done unoriginal film like this one. Boring and all around non-sense of a plot. No back story just a hint here and there but not enough to entertain or give the viewer anything memorable.

So the nymphoid chick Jill drags her boyfriend Adam into the caged and locked hospital because she thinks it’s cool and awesome. Reluctant at first but because a police officer shows up he joins her and yes as you would guess they hide themselves in the place and yes start to explore the old dark spooky place, "am I snoring".

Noises and odd sounds. Yes the nymph doesn't take it serious and plays around. Now there is a plus to this movie believe it or not. There are moments of scares. That's the plus of the film but it’s not enough because it’s too few and all around. When you finally get passed all the non-sense of the start it works in moments but very few.

When Adam and Jill leave the hospital Jill is sick. Their car is towed. They call friends Bobby and Ellie and instead of leaving they all want to explore. Now Adam and Jill have already experienced weirdness and noise and yet they still go back in making it stupid but that’s the script and as you know Adam’s holding the camera.

Bobby's character is the basic prick. Adam never stops filming. Jill is sex crazed and a basic bitch. Elliot is the quit one. The movie is nothing new or anything special other than two good scare moments but sadly that really can't save it.

This is directed by Bernard Rose who did 88's Paperhouse and 92's Candyman. Sadly he failed at this film and created nothing new and nothing to even care about.

The main plus is the acting by Caitlyn Folley who plays the nymph Jill. She creates and owns her part and does a great job in making you believe her weirdness.

This also stars Chris Coy who plays Bobby. Chris has been a reoccurring character on the TV shows Treme and True Blood. He aces the part of the prick Bobby in this film.

Special features on the Blu-ray are little such as a basic making of feature and the trailer. In the end this was a movie that I easily forgot about even why I was watching it. I suppose if you’re a fan of these type films it might work but even as a fan I don’t think it works because I’ve seen it all before. The ending is absolutely ridiculous.
