10th Anniversary Screening of Mike Judge's "Idiocracy" to Take Place at Select Theaters

Alamo Drafthouse recently send us information for the upcoming 10th anniversary screening of the Mike Judge's Cult Classic "Idiocracy". The screening will also be followed by a livestream Q & A session from members of the cast and crew from the film.

The 10th anniversary screening will take place on October 4th at select theaters.

For times and theater listings, you can visit drafthouse.com/idiocracy for more information.

Press Release:

Ten years ago, satirist Mike Judge told of an impossible future in which our collective intelligence had dropped so low it threatened to destroy the world. In this future, America was run by a corrupt, sociopathic former pro-wrestler with severe anger management issues, and the most popular entertainment in the land was a YouTube-esque video playlist called "Ow My Balls."

Flash forward to today. We are approaching the end of the most bizarre, absurdist presidential race in U.S. history. Over the past months, thousands have questioned in social media whether IDIOCRACY was actually a documentary. Mike Judge's sadly prescient film has transcended its cult classic status to become a vibrant and essential facet of this election conversation.

The Alamo Drafthouse, along with the network of Art House Convergence Theaters and local League of Women Voters chapters, want to invite everyone to revisit and rediscover IDIOCRACY on the eve of the 2016 presidential election.

Members of the cast and crew of IDIOCRACY will be live in person at the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica at 6:45pm on October 4th for a screening of the film and a post-movie conversation.

Concurrent IDIOCRACY screenings will also take place at Alamo Drafthouse locations and Art House Convergence theaters across the country and the post-movie conversation will be live-streamed to those audiences.

For those that can't make it to an Alamo Drafthouse or Art House Convergence theater, fear not, you can still join in the fun. Watch the film from your own DVD, from Amazon, iTunes or the platform of your choice. Press play exactly at 7:00pm Pacific Standard Time, and then tune into Facebook Live from facebook.com/alamodrafthouse for the post-movie conversation at 8:25pm PST.

Questions will be taken from the live audience in Santa Monica, but also from the live-stream and Facebook Live audiences via Twitter using the hashtag #IdiocracyToday.

In attendance at the event will be director and writer Mike Judge and star Maya Rudolph.

Also, the Alamo Drafthouse's collectible art gallery Mondo is creating a licensed IDIOCRACY shirt for the occasion. It will be available on mondotees.com. A portion of proceeds from merchandise and participating screenings will be donated to local League of Women Voters chapters to support their non-partisan efforts to register and educate voters.

Whether you are voting for Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton, Jill Stein, Gary Johnson, or whether you just want to cast a write-in vote for Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho, these options are all your right -- but first you must register to vote!

"If we learn one thing from this election cycle," says Alamo Founder and CEO Tim League, "it's that to truly be an American one must register to vote, join the debate and participate in democracy."

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema and Dogfish Head Craft Brewery Present Off Centered Film Festival

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema and Dogfish Head Craft Brewery recently released information for the Off Centered Film Fest. Films screening at the festival include "Cabin Boy",  Austin's movie mockers Master Pancake Skewering TITANIC under the stars, "The Host, "The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou" and "Money Business.

The Off Centered Film Fest takes from April 23rd to April 25th.

For more information on this festival, you can goto: http://offcenteredfilmfest.com/

Press Release:

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema and Dogfish Head Craft Brewery are proud to announce the return of the "Off-Centered Film Fest." Now in its eighth year, OCFF is an epic three-day celebration of craft beer, delicious food and off-centered films for off-centered people. This year, it all revolves around the theme of "Yacht Rockin'", paying tribute radical nautical times in cinema. Two major highlights this year include a massive Rolling Roadshow Beer Party with a fleet of Texas craft brewers on deck along Austin's movie mockers Master Pancake Skewering TITANIC under the stars, and a rare 35mm screening of Chris Elliott's salty 1994 comedy CABIN BOY with Elliott and director Adam Resnick in person!

Rare and vintage Dogfish Head beers will be available for purchase at all OCFF screenings. Plus, Sam Calagione, Dogfish Head Craft Brewery Founder and Head Brewer, will also be in person throughout the fest, hosting and toasting the spirit of "Yacht Rockin'" at all of this year's events. And, because we all love smooth sailing and clean coastlines, this year's OCFF will help further the great work of and help to benefit The National Wildlife Federation (nwf.org).

"I look forward to Off-Centered Film Fest every year," says Sam. "Traveling to Austin, hanging with craft beer heads from Texas and beyond, celebrating film and food with our friends at the Drafthouse, seeing all the crazy inspired OCFF short film submissions... it's all a huge blast!"

OCFF kicks off on Thursday, April 24, with "Master Pancake Presents: TITANIC Rolling Roadshow Beer Party." Not only will this special outdoor screening feature Austin's beloved movie mockers taking the wind out of the mega-blockbuster's sails, but also more than a dozen Texas craft brewers will be on hand offering up selections of rare and special beers. This year's featured breweries include: Karbach, Circle, Save The World, (512), Real Ale, Austin Beerworks, Uncle Billy's Brew & Que, Oasis, Independence, Strange Land, Jester King, Live Oak, and Hops & Grain.

"John Erler and his Master Pancake team have been a big part of the Alamo Drafthouse family since nearly the very beginning," says Alamo Drafthouse CEO and Founder Tim League. " I am really excited to bring one of their finest shows ever into what has become one of my all time favorite annual events, the Off-Centered Film Festival."

Also on tap for the weekend:  Wes Anderson's THE LIFE AQUATIC WITH STEVE ZISSOU Dogfish Head Beer Feast, featuring a menu of chef-prepared food inspired by the film paired with hard-to-find Dogfish Head beers; screenings of the Marx Brothers classic high seas comedy MONKEY BUSINESS and modern Korean monster-piece THE HOST; and even a Yacht Rockin' Party on an actual boat!

On Sunday, April 25, this year's OCFF will come to a close with special guests comedian Chris Elliott and director Adam Resnick in person at Alamo South Lamar to present a rare 35mm screening of their tragically underappreciated comedy CABIN BOY.

"CABIN BOY is the pinnacle of 'off-centered' comedies," says Alamo Director of Beer Events and OCFF programmer John Gross. "And we aim to make this 35mm screening the best one ever. It is such an honor to host Chris Elliott, who in addition to being a national treasure, brought life to the silver screen's best fancy lad!"

Each year OCFF also features a short film competition. This year, contestants submitted 3-minute or less shorts on the "Yacht Rockin'" theme and the winners were selected via Facebook. The top three finalists are invited to come to Austin and will have their work shown up on the big screen - and find out their final ranking of 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place - as part of Sunday's MONKEY BUSINESS program.

Press Release:

The Alamo Drafthouse is excited to announce an exclusive, restored 35mm screening of Shaw Brothers' seminal martial arts film FIVE DEADLY VENOMS. Presented in conjunction with Celestial Pictures and El Rey Network, the screening includes the legendary record producer, director, actor and screenwriter, RZA, in conversation with Alamo Drafthouse CEO, Tim League, as they discuss the film and the Shaw Brothers' immeasurable impact on contemporary cinema and music.

"It's always a privilege to sit with RZA, but to talk about the mythic Shaw Brothers studio is the stuff of legend," said Alamo Drafthouse Founder & CEO Tim League. "Their work changed martial arts cinema forever, but their effect on hip hop is also profound. There's no one better than RZA with whom to discuss this."

FIVE DEADLY VENOMS follows Yang Tieh, the last student of the Poison Clan, on his epic quest find the five most mysterious and dangerous disciples of the clan - the Centipede, the Scorpion, the Lizard, the Snake, and the Toad - each trained in a different fighting style, and bring them together to root out a conspiracy that could divide and destroy the entire clan. Incredible kung fu choreography and vibrantly vital filmmaking culminate in a climactic five-way battle that has yet to be topped. FIVE DEADLY VENOMS launched a generation of kung fu acolytes and was listed at number 11 on Entertainment Weekly's Top 50 Cult Films list and continues to be referenced in pop culture today.

El Rey Network, maverick filmmaker Robert Rodriguez's genre-busting cable network, is the American home for the Shaw Brothers collection. The network airs the iconic martial arts films throughout the week and during the Thursday night Kung Fu marathons "Flying Five Finger One Armed Eight Pole Shaolin Exploding Death Touch Thursdays".

FIVE DEADLY VENOMS screens Monday, March 16th at Austin's Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar location.

Alamo Drafthouse Launches "Vinegar Syndrome Presents" With "Christmas Evil"

Alamo is excited to announce the launch of the brand new film series "Vinegar Syndrome Presents," coming to Alamo Drafthouse locations nationwide starting this December with the surreal and insane Santa Claus slasher from 1980, CHRISTMAS EVIL / YOU BETTER WATCH OUT. Vinegar Syndrome is recognized as perhaps the most important home video label in the world for genre film - the Criterion Collection of exploitation/horror/weirdo movies. Founded by genre-film lovers for genre-film lovers, the label's mission is to preserve, restore, and release the rarest and most unique exploitation and horror movies from their massive archive. VS works tirelessly to rescue these titles from the brink of oblivion with brilliant new digital restorations from original negatives, spending countless hours preserving them in their state of the art restoration lab.

Each month, "Vinegar Syndrome Presents" will showcase one of these brand new 2K digital restorations on Alamo screens across the country. And in true exploitation fashion, there will be drink and menu specials that complement the raw, dirt-cheap nature of the movies themselves.

"Vinegar Syndrome sets a new precedent of respect for vintage exploitation and horror movies that have been misunderstood or feared by the general public," explains Alamo Programmer Joe Ziemba. "The level of care devoted to their restorations feels almost surreal. The identity of the Alamo Drafthouse is built on the appreciation of these movies, so we're proud to showcase Vinegar Syndrome's gorgeous restorations the way they were meant to be seen - on the big screen, with an audience."

The new series arrives just in time for the holidays with the perversely fun CHRISTMAS EVIL / YOU BETTER WATCH OUT. Slasher Santas may have ruled the 1980s, with a wide variety of ho-ho-homicides perpetrated by tubby bearded men in such films as SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT and DON'T OPEN TIL CHRISTMAS. But CHRISTMAS EVIL / YOU BETTER WATCH OUT is the only holiday horror-ride that not only features one of cinema's all-time finest performances - Brandon Maggart (of SESAME STREET!) as a misguided St. Nick in a full scale spiral of Santastic savagery - but also the greatest closing shot of any movie ever.

Future "Vinegar Syndrome Presents" titles include: RAW FORCE, DEMONOID: MESSENGER OF DEATH, THE TELEPHONE BOOK, SOME CALL IT LOVING, MASSAGE PARLOR MURDERS and many, many more.

"We're very excited to be teaming up with The Alamo Drafthouse for this series," says Vinegar Syndrome co-founder Joe Rubin. "The Alamo is run by people who genuinely love movies and value the importance of creating a memorable theatrical screening experience. We're hoping that this partnership will give a new generation of movie goers the chance to experience some rare and awesome films on the big screen, where they belong."
