Anthony T’s Horror & Wrestling Show – Episode 113: Wrestlemania 40 Review

Anthony T's got to stop with these one episode per month as it wasn't his fault this month as he was caught up in Wrestlemania and Blumhousemania fever. In this edition, he talks about Jason Blum and Lionsgate's desire to remake "The Blair Witch Project" which he doesn't like at all. Then Anthony T gives his thoughts on the two night wrestling extravaganza known as Wrestlemania XL or how Dwyane needed to main event night one of Wrestlemania XL. Then in What's Anthony T's Watching, he reviews Blumhouse Productions latest film about a killer pool. Sounds like the plot of a B-Movie but that did hit theaters in 2024.

Anthony T's Horror & Wrestling Show: Episode 88 - Best of Vol 5: The Best of "Halloween Ends" Rants

With Anthony T preparing his 2022 list and horror show and horror whammy awards, he brings to you another best of episode, In this edition of the Best of Anthony T's Horror and Wrestling Show, it's all about "Halloween Ends" and the road to one of the worst films of the year all leading to his review of the film in which he drops an F bomb. That's how bad the film was. Topics include the 4 year time jump rant, an unaired rant about David Gordon Green playing around with the ending in late august of this year which showed in the end product, the infamous "Cunningham" fake trailer because he wanted to jump on the Corey Cunningham meme train after hating the movie and more.

"Upgrade" Review by Tim Hellman

'UPGRADE': Four and a Half Stars (Out of Five)

A sci-fi horror flick written and directed by Leigh Whannell, who also co-wrote such hit horror movies as 'SAW' and 'INSIDIOUS' (and their first sequels). The film stars Logan Marshall-Green as a paralyzed man who uses an experimental computer chip to give him special powers and avenge his wife's murder. The film costars Betty Gabriel, Benedict Hardie and Harrison Gilbertson. It's received mostly positive reviews from critics, and it's also a modest hit at the Box Office as well. I loved it.

Grey Trace (Marshall-Green) is involved in a car accident, with his wife Asha (Melanie Vallejo), and then the couple are viciously attacked by criminals. She's murdered in the incident, and he's paralyzed for life. Grey is then offered a chance to walk again, by having a computer chip embedded in his spinal cord. The operation is a success, but the computer chip also begins talking to him as well, and turning him into a super human fighting machine. With his new skills, Grey can also now avenge his wife's murder, but he quickly puts himself back in grave danger (in the process) too.

Like his buddy James Wan, Whannell is really good at creating a nostalgic genre movie feel, similar to the B-movie hits of yesteryear. Marshall-Green is decent in the lead, and he actually goes beyond just doing a poor man's Tom Hardy imitation this time. The film is fun, disturbing, memorable, and it has a really good and dark twist at the end too. I'm sure genre movie fans will love it, and a sequel is inevitable.

"Truth or Dare" Review by Tim Hellman

TRUTH OR DARE': Three Stars (Out of Five)

A supernatural horror flick about a normal game of truth or dare that turns deadly when something begins killing those who cheat at the game. It was directed by Jeff Wadlow (who also helmed the genre flicks 'KICK-ASS 2' and 'CRY WOLF'), and it was scripted by Wadlow, Michael Reisz, Jillian Jacobs, and Chris Roach. The movie stars Lucy Hale, Tyler Posey, Violett Beane, Hayden Szeto, and Landon Liboiron. It's received mostly negative review from critics, but it has performed really well at the Box Office so far though. I found it to be very mildly amusing.

Olivia (Hale) gets talked into going to Mexico, for vacation for a week, by her best friend Markie (Beane). Olivia secretly has a huge crush on Markie's boyfriend, Lucas (Posey), who Olivia is constantly cheating on. As their trip is coming to an end, the friend group is all talked into playing a game of 'truth or dare', while drinking one night. Later they learn that the game is actually being controlled by supernatural forces, which will kill them if they tell a lie or don't successfully complete a dare. All of their social drama also comes to light, as they're being killed, one by one, by a mysterious entity as well.

The movie is your pretty standard slasher flick. To it's credit, it's definitely pretty creepy and disturbing, but at the same time it's also pretty pointless, like a lot of similar horror films though. The film does accomplish what it sets out to do basically though, and it's not a bad movie in my opinion. I'd recommend seeing it, if you're a big fan of the genre, but probably not it you're not.

"Happy Death Day" Review by Tim Hellman

'HAPPY DEATH DAY': Four and a Half Stars (Out of Five)

A horror film about a college student that's murdered on her birthday, and then keeps waking up the previous morning, having to repeat the same day until she can find out who her killer is and stop them. It was directed by Christopher B. Landon (who also helmed the 2015 zombie horror flick 'SCOUTS GUIDE TO THE ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE'), and it was written by Scott Lobdell. The film stars Jessica Rothe, Israel Broussard, Rachel Matthews and Ruby Modine. It's received mostly positive reviews from critics, and it's a huge hit at the Box Office as well. I absolutely loved it!

Tree Gelbman (Rothe) is a very popular student at her school, who's having an affair with a married teacher and likes to party and drink a lot. She wakes up in the dorm room of a much less popular student than her, named Carter Davis (Broussard). Tree then rushes out of his room, embarrassed by what she's done, and goes about her day, which happens to be her birthday. Later that night she's murdered by a masked killer, and the next day she wakes up the previous morning, having to repeat the same day again. Tree discovers that she'll have to keep doing this, until she can learn the identity of her killer and stop them.

There's been so many movies now that take a different spin on the 'GROUNDHOG DAY' storyline (like the equally excellent 'BEFORE I FALL', from earlier this year), that it seems like it should be it's own film genre by now!. This movie manages to do it in a pretty fresh and somewhat creative way though, and it's a hell of a lot of fun. Especially if you love horror flicks (like I do). Rothe is great in the lead, and Lobdell seems to be an awesomely talented director at this film genre. I can't wait to see what he does next, and I definitely recommend this movie as a Halloween treat!
