Midwestern Films recently send released the official poster and trailer for the upcoming documentary "Fahrenheit 11/9". The film is the latest film from controversial director Michael Moore and explores the live and times we live in at then moment.

'THREE IDENTICAL STRANGERS': Four and a Half Stars (Out of Five)
A documentary about three identical triplets who were separated at birth, and neither they or their families were aware of it, until the siblings all accidentally meet at the age of 19. Then they later learn why. The film was directed by Tim Wardle, and it's received nearly unanimous positive reviews from critics. I found it to be extremely intriguing, but it's also highly disturbing. It's a really well made doc!
Eddy, David and Robert were three identical triplets who were separated at birth, and put into different families. Neither they or their families knew this, until the three siblings accidentally meet at 19-year-old. They are amazed to learn just how similar they all are, right down to the women they like and their career choices. Their fascinating story becomes a huge news story as well, as the trio tours different talk shows, and then they later learn why this knowledge was kept secret from them (and their families).
The triplets were separated as part of a scientific 'nature vs. nurture' twin study, and the results of it are the most fascinating part of the film (and the most disturbing). This is why the movie reconfirmed my beliefs that were socially conditioned to make almost all of the choices we make in life, and how we accept and tolerate others. It's why we believe we need to consume meat and dairy, and it's also why all the same people are perceived to be unattractive, by almost everyone, and vice versa. There's a really established and controlled hierarchy, and everyone has their set place in it. We can break this social conditioning (and go vegan, and learn to find unique looking people beautiful), but it's like breaking an addiction. It takes a lot of conscious effort and determination. That's what this movie reconfirmed in me.

It’s been a while since I decided to review a documentary for this site. There hasn’t been any interesting subject matter than interested me. When I heard about “Burlesque: Heart of the Glitter Tribe”, I was interested in it because I know about it about it but not in depth. It also helped that the trailer looked interesting to see what this is all about.
The film documents a group of burlesque performers who perform in front of people to explore themselves. They use their bodies to pretend to be someone different. The documentary also goes into the personalities and lives of these performance and the whole scene as a whole.
Going into this, I was interested in the subject matter as I’m curious into alternative lifestyles and sexuality documentaries. “Burlesque Heart of the Glitter Tribe” was an interesting documentary as this was an interesting look into the world of burlesque.
What makes this good was the fact that I got a look into the world burlesque and lives that the performers leave. Director Jon Manning does a very good job going into the lives of the performances and why they choose to express themselves through the art form of burlesque. It made the people that he focuses on interesting to watch as they come from different backgrounds. The other thing that I liked about this documentary was the fact the people that Manning interviews are likeable. He does that by focuses on the people themselves and their daily lives instead of making the purpose of the dance as the centerfold of the documentary. It helped keep me turned into the subject and interested in these people.
If there was one thing that I didn’t like about this, it was the fact that it didn’t focus on the promoter’s side of the subject. I would’ve at least liked to have known how a show gets put together. I was interested in knowing what makes a person want to put a show of this nature together or getting to the venue to finding the people who perform them. It would’ve made this subject more interesting as it adds to the art form. This would’ve made this a better film as I would’ve gotten all I wanted to know on this subject. Still, this worth checking out.
This was a good documentary that does a solid job going into the people that perform this art form for little or no money. Even though I was left wanting more in this documentary, “Burlesque Heart of the Glitter Tribe” that does a good job focusing on the performers and its subject.

'HILLARY'S AMERICA: THE SECRET HISTORY OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY': Zero Stars (Out of Five)
The new propaganda documentary flick, from writer/director Dinesh D'Souza (the man who also brought us the 2012 hit '2016: OBAMA'S AMERICA'). D'Souza once again co-wrote and co-directed the movie, this time with Bruce Schooley; the two filmmakers also co-wrote and co-directed the 2014 exploitation documentary flick 'AMERICA: IMAGINE THE WORLD WITHOUT HER'. In this film, D'Souza and Schooley analyze what (they think) presidential nominee Hillary Clinton's true motives are; by also examining the history of the Democratic Party. Like 'OBAMA'S AMERICA', the film is yet another attempt to sway the upcoming presidential election. It's gotten almost unanimously negative reviews from critics; and it's scored an average rating of 1.5 out of 10, on the website Rotten Tomatoes! I agree; it's one of the worst movies I've ever seen.
The film begins with D'Souza explaining how (he thinks) the U.S. government unfairly treated him, for his unlawful campaign donations (to a politician friend). D'Souza believes President Obama was seeking revenge, for his 2012 documentary film ('2016: OBAMA'S AMERICA'), by giving him a much harsher sentence than he deserved. D'Souza than goes on to explain that the Democratic Party has always had sinister motives, since it's conception, and Hillary Clinton is yet another villain of that party. Republicans are the true 'champions of justice and equality', according to this movie.
Being a progressive Independent, I definitely don't agree with D'Souza's politics; but I'm also not a fan of Hillary Clinton (at all), or the Democratic Party either. Even putting all politics aside though, this film is just really poorly made. D'Souza is one of the worst filmmakers of recent times (he's also a horrible actor), but this movie actually makes 'OBAMA'S AMERICA' look somewhat aptly made! The film's 'talking points' are completely irrational, and the filmmakers often contradict themselves (throughout the entire movie). The narrative makes no sense either. The majority of the film is told through really poorly done (and extremely corny) reenactments; that are filled with atrocious acting, and unbearable melodrama. These scenes are also extremely cartoonish too (and ridiculously over-the-top); making the movie feel much more like a historical spoof, than a serious documentary film! The movie actually reminds me (a lot) of'DRUNK HISTORY' (because of this); but it's also painfully boring. For a large chunk of the film's running time, I also wondered if D'Souza would ever bring Hillary Clinton into the story (he finally does, in the movie's final 30 minutes). I also wonder what D'Souza would have done, with the film, if Bernie Sanders had won the Democratic nomination. Would he have re-shot those portions of the movie, and re-titled the film 'Bernie's America'? What kind of possible 'sinister motives' could D'Souza have tried to attribute to Sanders, and how would it have fit with the rest of the movie's narrative (being that Bernie Sanders was always an Independent, before this election)? Worst of all, the film just left me feeling really dirty (like really nasty exploitation flicks often do); I felt like I needed to rush to take a shower, when it was finally over! This film definitely won't be swaying anyone's vote, that's for sure.

The documentary takes a look at the late Leonard Nimoy who played famous "Star Trek" character Spock. The film is narrated by Nimoy's son Adam Nimoy and interviews from Nimoy, William Shatner, J.J. Abrams, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg and more.
"For the Love of Spock" will be making its international premiere at Fantasia on July 16th at 4:10PM at the SGWU Alumni Auditorium (Hall Theatre). Director Adam Nimoy and Producer David Zappone will be on hand for the screening.

The film will be making its world premiere at Outfest Los Angeles on July 12th at the DGA Theater Complex on 7920 Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90046. Screening time is 5pm.

'RAIDERS!: THE STORY OF THE GREATEST FAN FILM EVER MADE': Four Stars (Out of Five)
A documentary on the making of the fan film 'RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK: THE ADAPTATION'; which is a shot-for-shot remake of the classic 1981 Steven Spielberg movie. It was made by two 11-year-old Mississippi boys, and their friends, over the course of 7-years. They finished the entire remake, except for the final airplane battle sequence. The friends reunited, 30-years later, to finally film that one missing scene (and finish their movie). This film documents that process. It was directed and written by first time filmmakers Jeremy Coon and Tim Skousen; and it was based on the book by Alan Eisenstock. Being a past childhood filmmaker, myself, and a huge movie nerd, as well (to this day), I really enjoyed this documentary.
Two 11-year-old childhood friends, Eric Zala and Chris Strompolos, setout to remake their favorite movie, 'RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK', in Mississippi in 1981. The film was not available on video yet; so they had to rely on a lot of other resources to pull it off (like a published script, and magazine articles), as well as their friends and memories. They completed filming every scene of the original movie, over the next 7-years, except for the landing pad battle sequence. 30-years later, the friends finally reunited; and raised the money they needed (through a Kickstarter campaign) to finish their childhood dream.
I've never seen the fan film, this movie is about, but I have (of course) seen Spielberg's 1981 masterpiece (multiple times). I love the original film still, and I'm sure I'd probably like the kids' remake too. Spielberg has seen it (and he loves it), so have many others; like filmmaker Eli Roth and film critic Harry Knowles (who both appear in this documentary). Even though I haven't yet seen the beloved fan flick 'cult classic' (this is based on), I could still really appreciate this documentary; because it beautifully captures what a 'love for movies' is all about. I was a childhood filmmaker, and I still try to make movies (today); so I definitely found this film inspiring and relatable (to say the least).

Fan Film Ever Made". The film has screened at such film festivals such
as SXSW, DOC NYC, Fantasia International Film Festival.
